Denim skirt project - take 1!

I've decided I'm going to try two of these in different colours of denim since I love denim mini skirts so much! I had picked these jeans up in a charity shop but they were too short for me! (Excuse my bare flesh!)
Ankle swingers!!
I've heard about people making jeans into skirts before but they've always looked really tight or a bit too 'home-made' looking for my tastes but I decided to give it a go anyway. So I cut the legs off, unpicked the seam up to the zip at the front and to just below the waistband at the back. I then folded the fabric under in order to leave a triangle shape in the front and a triangle shape in the back and cut away the excess fabric which I'd folded under. I then cut fabric from the legs and used it to fill the triangle shapes I'd just created, trying to match the colour of the fabric as closely as possible. This was because if I'd just sewn the skirt back together as it was it would have been way too tight where the jeans were fitted around the bum, and I wasn't after a pencil skirt. The extra fabric added in meant that the skirt would be more the sort of shape I was looking for! So I pinned the fabric on, then stitched it on with my trusty sewing machine! I decided to keep all the edges and the hem seam-free because I wanted a bit of a rough/frayed look to it, rather than completely neat edges.

So here's the finished result, a denim mini just in time for me-made March!
